Safe and healthy mobility in Berlin

The Fraunhofer Institute for Open Communication Systems FOKUS is committed to making the Bicycle Navigation App accessible in accordance with national legislation implementing Directive (EU) 2016/2102 of the European Parliament and of the Council.

This accessibility statement applies to the mobile application Bicycle Navigation App in its versions for Android (Google Play Store) and iOS (Public Beta via TestFlight). A separate accessibility statement applies to the website www.testfeld-berlin.de here.

Legal Basis

This statement is issued in accordance with §12b of the Disability Equality Act (BGG) in conjunction with the Accessible Information Technology Ordinance (BITV 2.0) and the relevant requirements for mobile applications (EN 301 549).

Status of Compliance with Requirements

The Bicycle Navigation App is partially compliant with the requirements of BITV 2.0 in conjunction with EN 301 549. The app is currently in a public beta phase; accessibility is continuously being developed.

The contents and functions listed below are not fully accessible for the following reasons.

Accessibility Features

• Voice Output of Navigation: Turn-by-turn and maneuver instructions are provided audibly in the route language via text-to-speech, thus supporting users with visual impairments.
• System Font Sizes: Text content of the user interface takes into account the font size selected in the system settings.
• Platform-Compliant Controls: The app largely uses standard controls from iOS and Android, which are generally compatible with the respective screen readers (VoiceOver, TalkBack).

Non-Accessible Content

• Map-Based Live Navigation: The moving map, current position, route line, and traffic light indicators are predominantly displayed visually. These map-based contents are currently only partially accessible to screen readers.
• Color Indicators: The traffic light phase state (red/yellow/green) and parts of the speed display are conveyed primarily through color; an equivalent non-color indication has not yet been fully implemented.
• Speed and GLOSA Display: The graphical speedometer and recommendation display are designed for visual perception and are not fully announced by screen readers.
• Contrasts and Target Sizes: Individual overlays and map symbols do not meet the required contrast values or minimum target sizes in every situation.

These limitations will be addressed gradually.

This statement was created on July 8, 2026.

The assessment is based on a self-assessment by the development team according to the relevant requirements for mobile applications of EN 301 549. An independent, comprehensive conformity assessment is still pending and is planned for the further course of the beta phase.
